The Mayor of Douglas is paying a personal tribute to the comic actor and entertainer Sir Norman Wisdom, who died, aged 95, earlier this month.
Councillor Ritchie McNicoll says he brought a sense of fun to every occasion, and was skilled at immediately putting people at their ease.
He says Sir Norman's unique brand of humour and sense of mischief contributed to many of his civic engagements, during his terms as mayor.
Councillor McNicoll has particularly fond memories of the occasion he hosted a 90th birthday celebration for Sir Norman at the Villa Marina.
He says the actor buried his face in his cake and shared it out by throwing handfuls into the audience, much to the delight of the children.
Councillor McNicholl says that, as a Freeman of the Borough of Douglas, a legendary comic actor, a supporter of many Isle of Man charities and an Island resident held in deep affection by all, Sir Norman will be sorely missed.
