Former business tycoon Trevor Baines has lost his appeal against a six-year prison sentence, imposed for money laundering.
The 70-year-old, from Woodbourne Road in Douglas, was convicted last autumn following a month-long trial at Douglas courthouse.
Judge of Appeal Geoffrey Tattersall and Deemster Doyle dismissed the appeal, stressing the severity of the matter, involving a very substantial sum of money.
They said it 'struck at the foundations of the financial probity of the Island's financial services industry'.
They concluded that, despite the personal mitigation available to Baines, the trial judge had no option but to impose a substantial custodial sentence, and that six years was not manifestly wrong or excessive.
