Global recall underway

Local car dealership, Ocean Citroen, says it's working to replace faulty airbags in some models following a recent 'stop drive' instruction to owners.

The global recall is thought to affect around 120,000 motorists in the UK, and possibly up to 200 in the Isle of Man, and is linked with a potentially lethal fault with the bags.

The defective parts were originally supplied by the now defunct Japanese company Takata.

The 'stop drive' notice follows a tragic accident in France, in which a woman driving a 2014 C3 died when the ammonium nitrate inflator inside the airbag exploded.

The defect has led to millions of recalls globally, with Takata airbags found to become unstable as they age, particularly in areas with high humidity and heat.

The models involved include the  Citroen C3 (2009-2016), as well as the Citroen DS3 models built up to 2019.

Ocean Citroen says owners have been sent letters, and alert notices have been placed on social media.

Efforts to quickly expedite the necessary repairs are being made.
