The role played by Illiam Dhone in establishing the Isle of Man's independence has been remembered at the traditional Hango Hill commemoration in Castletown.
Illiam Dhone, or William Christian, was stirred by the people of Mann to stop the Island being given back to the English crown.
His decision to side with the Parliamentarians in return for independence, back in 1663, has made him a patriot and Martyr to Manx nationalists.
The English oration was given by Steven Moore who drew parallels with modern society, and said he was there to represent the "grumbling class" (play attached audio file):
