Contract changes under review
Special Constables carried out almost 3,000 hours of work in the Island last year, it's been revealed.
The part-time, volunteer police officers are not bound by contract, and can work as much or as little as they wish.
The Isle of Man Constabulary currently employs around 35 of them.
That equates to each Special carrying out an average of under two hours' work per week - although a detailed breakdown of the figures is not available.
However, proposed new regulations may force them to work a set minimum number of hours per year.
Special Constables' duties include working alongside full-time officers, conducting patrols and attending crime scene investigations.
It's not known how many hours were undertaken by the Constabulary's 28 Community Volunteers in 2016.
