Police cuts believed to be the reason
The Isle of Man's chief constable has said a spike in the number of arrests of young offenders is the result of cuts to the rehabilitation team.
Figures in his annual report, which has just been published, show arrests of people under the age of 18 has risen by 22%.
The Isle of Man Constabulary previously had a specialised team of five who focused on preventing juveniles from re-offending, however, that has now been reduced to two.
Chief Constable Gary Roberts says, 'This is positive proof that our youth justice team, which was once highly effective, is now failing'.
