Steam Packet freight ship bound for Jersey on 12-month charter

Deal will see Arrow being used by ferry operator DFDS

The Steam Packet has signed a deal which will take its freight vessel Arrow to the Channel Islands on a long-term charter.

It will operate predominantly between Jersey and Portsmouth for international ferry operator DFDS.

The 12-month arrangement will come into effect on 24 March.

Arrow is currently in Douglas and will remain in the capital until the Ben-my-Chree’s current dry-dock period is completed.

It will then sail to Teesside for dry-docking before undertaking port trials and pilotage training before entering regular service for DFDS.

Managing Director Brian Thomson said: “We’re pleased to have secured a long-term charter for Arrow with a renowned international operator such as DFDS.

“This gives us security while the future fleet strategy is agreed with our stakeholders.”

The Steam Packet has declined to reveal how much the agreement is worth telling Manx Radio it is 'commercially confidential information'.

Arrow was bought by the company is September 2022 to ensure compliance with the Sea Services Agreement prior to the arrival of the Manxman in mid-2023.
