Brian Thomson says action shouldn't impact passengers too much

The Managing Director of the Steam Packet Company says he's "hugely disappointed" staff members have voted to take industrial action.

Members of the Nautilus International union will take action short of a strike from 6pm on 27 December.

It means they will only work responsibilities which fall under their job title, and won't do any overtime.

Mr Thomson has questioned the motives behind the industrial action:

In a recent ballot of Nautilus members, 81 percent voted in favour of industrial action. There was a 77 percent turnout.

Of the 70 officers the Steam Packet Company employs, 48 are members of Nautilus.
