Tynwald agrees on motion looking into diagnosis and support mechanisms

The Isle of Man may have taken a step forward this week towards the introduction of all-age support and diagnosis pathways for ADHD and Autism.

Tynwald agreed it was of the opinion that such pathways should be planned for by the Department of Health and Social Care and Manx Care.

Furthermore, the approved motion on the subject also agreed that such a plan - along with funding requirements for it - should be brought for a debate and vote at or before the court's meeting in February 2026.

One of those supporting the motion put forward by Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher was Douglas South representative - and Health Minister - Claire Christian:

Meanwhile, Onchan MHK Julie Edge stated whilst she 'fully supports' the concept of such pathways, she raised concerns about how this approach would be funded:

In response, Ms Faragher not only stated her belief that pathways would provide 'cost benefits' but also disputed claims from Ms Edge that it would take away from investing in young people:

Part of the motion also saw Tynwald agree that any plan should be consider findings from the dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia committee along with the economic impact of not providing diagnosis and support for neurodivergence.
