Storm Bram: Red weather warning to come into force later

We're told to expect 'severe' coastal overtopping this afternoon

A red weather warning will come into force later today as the Island braces for Storm Bram.

The warning, for 'severe' coastal overtopping, will be in place from 1pm until 4pm today.

Strong south to south-westerly winds will be severe gale to storm force around the hours of high tide (approximately 2:30pm), with gusts of up to 70mph forecast.

Ronaldsway Met Office says this could result in some trees being brought down, leading to disruptions or delays to travel.

We're told to expect major volumes of water and debris onto exposed locations such as Castletown promenades, Shore Road (Rushen) and the northern end of Douglas promenade. 

As a result, the promenades along with Ramsey Promenade and section in Douglas from Summerhill to Port Jack will be closed from lunchtime. 

Parking on the Loch Promenade walkway will also be suspended.

Laxey Promenade will also be affected but to a lesser extent (yellow to amber category).

We're also being warned to expect some minor inner harbour flooding.

All Steam Packet services have been cancelled, while the Isle of Man Airport is warning the conditions could cause some disruption to flights.

A separate amber weather warning for heavy rain remains in place this morning until 10 o'clock.
