Footage shows large waves crashing onto coastal roads

The strong winds associated with Storm Bram have brought widespread disruption today with trees down and debris across multiple roads.

A red weather warning has come to an end, but an amber warning for storm force winds was put in place until 6pm.

The latest information as per police and the Isle of Man Government is that the Mountain Road will remain closed until at least 9pm tonight, at which point a review will take place.

Athol Street Douglas and Castletown Promenade are now open.

Police are also warning of flooding in the area of Greeba Castle.

Officers had also been encouraging people to avoid QEII High School due to the 'roof coming off'.

The school has told Manx Radio: 'Further to the constabulary’s online update regarding the QEII High School roof, I can confirm that this afternoon’s gales have caused a couple of roof panels to become partially lifted.

'The roof is currently being inspected and secured ahead of the school opening tomorrow. The constabulary has confirmed that, as things stand, the school can open as normal.'

Meanwhile, Shore Road in Rushen will be closed until noon tomorrow.

There has been widespread disruption at the airport, with the majority of today's flights to and from Ronaldsway Airport cancelled and today's Steam Packet sailings have also been called off.
