The Island escaped the worst of last night's gales.
The highest gust at lower altitude was a blast of 74 miles and hour at Port St. Mary, but Met Office equipment at the top of Snaefell recorded a gust of 105 miles an hour, at 4.50am. Anything over 89 miles an hour is officially classed as hurricane force.
During the big storm of January 2005, gusts peaked at 91 miles an hour at Ronaldsway Airport and over 110 miles an hour on the Mountain Road.
