Committee to investigate ethics and punishments
Clearer rules concerning politicians' behaviour - and harsher punishments for those who break them - could be introduced as early as next year.
A successful motion in Tynwald this week means a Committee will now look into practice and procedures governing the conduct of members.
It comes in light of North Douglas MHK John Houghton's suspension last month over staff bullying allegations.
The motion's proposer, Chris Thomas MHK, would like to see a code of conduct introduced - as well as sanctions similar to those in the UK parliament:
