Strike action from teachers is 'not tolerable' says CM

Second round of industrial action set for January

Teachers who go on strike in the New Year should and will have their pay docked.

That’s according to the chief minister who has told Manx Radio the impact of industrial action is ‘not tolerable’.

Teaching staff – who are members of the NASUWT - will strike again on 11 and 12 January.

Alfred Cannan says he’s ‘totally focussed’ on improving conditions for teachers and this action is ‘unjustified’:

Members of the NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union – joined the picket line for the first round of strike action on 30 November and 1 December.

The union is the only one which hasn’t accepted a new pay deal from Department of Education, Sport and Culture.

Government claims the deal represents a pay rise of between eight and 11.9 per cent.
