Support available after sudden death of student

The school's head teacher has written to parents and guardians

Ballakermeen High School says support is available following the death of one of its students.

The Douglas school's head teacher has written to parents and guardians following the death of a Year 8 student.

Graeme Corrin said he was 'deeply saddened' to be informing families of the news.

He added: "The loss of a young person is something that is felt profoundly across a school community, and we know that this news will be difficult for many of our students, families and staff to hear.

"Our immediate thoughts are with the student's family and those closest to them, as they begin to come to terms with their loss."

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture's Bereavement Response Team will be at the school today to support students who may need time to talk things through and will provide further support and guidance over the coming days.

No further details have been issued at this time.
