The surveillance commissioner says he allowed the authorities to spy on people 58 times over the last year.
However, he says not all of those authorisations were taken up – because people were either detained by police or had left the Isle of Man.
Brendan O’Friel’s annual report is due to be laid before Tynwald a week on Tuesday.
In it, he says co-operation from the three authorities who wanted to carry out directed surveillance was always satisfactory, and he hadn’t refused any requests over the last year.
He says 2013 was the second year in a row there’d been a small increase in the number of authorisations granted.
