32-year-old wrongly claimed £11K
A Ballabeg woman who wrongly claimed around £11,000 in benefits has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Thirty-two-year-old Rebecca Rose Parker, of Vicarage Close, appeared at Douglas Courthouse for sentencing after being convicted following a trial.
She’d denied failing to tell Treasury about a change in circumstances and three charges of making false representations to obtain benefits.
Magistrates told Parker she'd continued to deny her guilt throughout the case.
The court heard the offences, committed between April 2020 and April last year, had resulted in her being overpaid £11,700.
She was jailed for a total of six weeks suspended for 12 months.
Parker was also ordered to pay £500 towards prosecution costs which she’ll pay off at a rate of £10 a week deducted from her benefits.
