A 27 year-old man has been given a four month prison sentence, suspended for two years, by the High Bailiff, Michael Moyle.
Andrew Edward Caley, of Christian Road, Douglas admitted an offence of affray.
The defendant punched a man, Barry Davis, several times outside the Rosemount public house in Douglas on August 2. The incident followed an argument in the pub earlier in the evening.
Mr Davis fell to the ground and suffered an eye injury, which required 14 stitches.
Caley's advocate said what happened was out of character and his client had been provoked.
Mr Moyle said offences involving young men fighting outside public houses in the early hours were becoming all too common on the Isle of Man.
