Tynwald rejects students' petition
Tynwald has rejected a motion to establish a committee to look at the pros and cons of the Island accepting a small number of Syrian refugees.
The move followed a student petition and was brought forward by Garff MHK Daphne Caine.
An amendment by Onchan member Julie Edge to refer the matter to the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee was also defeated.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle again voiced his opposition to the idea during the debate, pointing out financial aid from the Isle of Man has helped 60,000 Syrians for around the same amount it would cost to home 25 here.
