Eight weeks in prison for man who ignored quarantine rules
A Douglas takeaway delivery driver has been jailed after potentially exposing his customers to coronavirus.
Ivan Vasilev Dimitrov of Empress Drive appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
The 50-year-old admitted breaching coronavirus quarantine rules on 6 September.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the court Dimitrov had spent a fortnight with his family in Bulgaria and flew back to Ronaldsway airport on 3 September.
Despite being told to isolate himself for two weeks, on 6 September Dimitrov went back to work delivering for the Siam Orchid restaurant on Prospect Hill in Douglas.
The hearing was told the restaurant owner had initially refused to make a statement to police, and customers who’d dealt with Dimitrov that night now had to be traced and might have to quarantine themselves.
Mrs Hughes told Dimitrov his actions may have put the lives of his customers and the general public at risk.
She imposed an eight week prison term.
