
A member of the Road Traffic Licensing Committee says a rise in taxi fares is justified.
Rates went up by 5.9% over the weekend, in a move which wasn't widely publicised.
Keith Watterson says fuel and motoring costs have increased by 7.6% over the last year and all other items averaged out at 4.2%, so he feels it's a realistic figure.
However he admits customers would have been unaware of the rise and advance publicity is something which could be considered in future years:
