Taxis struggling with demand as bus driver strike continues

Traffic conditions '50% busier' says firm

A local cab driver says the service is struggling to cope with demand during the current bus dispute.

The seventh day of strike action is getting underway, with further dates announced for next month.

John Faragher, the co-owner of Elegance Taxis, says his firm has had to extend working hours and take on extra staff

He admits the situation is very challenging:

Bus Vannin is operating a contingency service, whilst the Manx Electric Railway is also offering a commuter service.

Talks between Unite the union and government have continued this week, though a resolution remains yet to be seen.

Drivers voted in favour of industrial action following a row over pay and contractual issues.
