Off-duty police officer spotted questionable overtake
A teenager from Castletown has been fined £650 after being caught riding without due care and attention by an off-duty police officer.
Nathan Reid, of Victoria Road, was travelling on the Mountain Road on 27 April when he was seen crossing solid double white lines to overtake near Kate’s Cottage.
The 19-year-old was forced to pull in due to an oncoming vehicle, and the hidden dip, but then continued to overtake other vehicles.
He was reported and, in interview, he told police he was an inexperienced rider who had taken more care since adding: “It was a silly mistake.”
Reid’s advocate told the court his initial overtake had been ‘misjudged’ adding: “He is very regretful of his actions on this date.”
Ordering him to pay £50 in prosecution costs Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood also imposed five penalty points.
