Rosemary Burgess pleaded guilty at Douglas courthouse
A teenage woman has been jailed for eight months after shoplifting while serving a suspended sentence.
Eighteen-year-old Rosemary Burgess of no fixed abode appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
She pleaded guilty to three charges of theft as well as one of possessing cannabis.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon said between 16 and 24 April, Burgess stole a Muddy Fox bike worth £120.
The court heard a manager at Dealz on Strand Street in Douglas spotted Burgess on CCTV as she stole socks and hair bobbles worth £2.50.
The next day, she went into a shop on Castle Mona Avenue to buy tobacco but was challenged to prove her age and fled the shop with £50 worth of goods.
Burgess was described as a drug addict who had previous convictions for theft, and had been given a suspended jail term by magistrates last year.
Mrs Hughes jailed her for two months and activated the suspended sentence, meaning Burgess was sent to prison for a total of eight months.
