Former special envoy for the Archbishop of Canterbury Terry Waite will be the guest of honour at the annual Trafalgar Ball this evening.
The event, at the Hilton Hotel, will raise funds for the King George's Fund for Sailors.
Mr Waite is an author and humanitarian, and is well known for his charity work, particularly for the homeless.
In 1987 he was sent to Lebanon to try and secure the release of hostages and was himself held captive for four years.
