Bid for express store ended
It’s been confirmed Tesco has withdrawn its bid to set up an express store in the Strand Shopping Centre.
The supermarket had planned to open a new store in the complex in the former Manx Electricity Authority shop.
But it has now surrendered its alcohol licence, provisionally granted in December 2015.
The licence was never formally granted due to a number of appeals by the owners of Shoprite.
Louise Whyman is centre manager at the Strand, which has been bought out by the Sports Direct group.
She says while disappointing, she understands why Tesco has decided to pull out:
