Douglas branch moves in line with UK
The local branch of supermarket Tesco has announced it's to stop issuing single use plastic bags.
A notice outside the store informs customers that, from 28 August, they will be replaced with a 10p 'bag for life' made from 94% recycled plastic.
These are designed for multiple use, and will be replaced free of charge once they wear out.
It follows the introduction of mandatory charges for disposable bags in England two years ago, which led to a significant drop in their use.
The store says their Bags of Help scheme raising money for local causes will be unaffected by the move.
