Christmas Day will mark two months since Lockie returned home to the IoM

The parents of an Island resident who was injured in a car crash almost three years ago say it feels great 'not to be parted again' as they look forward to Christmas together as a family. 

Christmas Day will mark two months since 20-year-old Lockie Kirk returned home to the Isle of Man. 

He suffered serious injuries in the crash, on The Switchback in Peel, in January 2022. 

It led to him being airlifted to Aintree Hospital before being transferred to the Derby House Neurological Rehabilitation Service in Liverpool.

'The darkest of times'

Lockie's parents Dan and Lauren have described the journey, since the accident, as 'a rollercoaster' and the 'darkest of times'.

During the time Lockie was away his parents would often find themselves split between Liverpool and their home.

'Ballalockie'

Lockie finally returned to the Island on 25 October this year after a community effort - DIY SOS style - which saw the family's property, nicknamed 'Ballalockie', extensively revamped to make it accessible for him.

 And now, with their son finally home, Lockie's parents told Manx Radio the weekends 'are far too short' as they catch up on much needed family time adding their house now feels like a home again:
