Pedestrian crossing has been delayed due to weather conditions

Braddan Commissioners met yesterday and discussed a number of issues affecting the parish.

The local authority will be introducing a new no smoking policy and updates were provided on the roadway, pedestrian crossing and Memorial Hall parking.

The clerk confirmed contractors are due to finish the new access road on 12 December.

It’s been the subject of a dispute between the commissioners and the Department of Health and Social Care over the last year and is going to cost the local authority £230,000.

The pedestrian crossing, which was a requirement given by planning, was also confirmed as being nearly complete.

However, because of the poor weather this week an ‘anti-slip’ road coating hasn’t been laid down as it needs to be done in dry conditions.

The clerk said if the weather improves it could be finished next week.

A new no smoking policy will be introduced at The Roundhouse to include vaping.

The commissioners agreed to include vapes because it was in support of banning the disposable versions when it went out for consultation.

The clerk said it’s not enforceable under legislation to stop someone smoking outside a building, but the board agreed to look into adding it to byelaws as a preventative measure.

Parking spaces at the Memorial Hall will be able to be rented out to residents and local businesses subject to approval from the Department of Infrastructure.

It was agreed that residents will be written to offering the purchase of a space, previously, the board had set the price at £695 a year.
