16-year-old found guilty of murdering Christopher McBurnie
The family of a teenager who was murdered in Ramsey last year say ‘the truth has prevailed’.
At Douglas Courthouse today (23 October) a 16-year-old boy was convicted of the murder of Christopher McBurnie.
The 14-year-old was fatally stabbed outside the boy’s home, in the northern town, on 29 May last year.
The teenager, who was also 14 at the time, had argued he’d acted in self-defence but a jury unanimously found him guilty after a four-week trial.
He can't be named for legal reasons.

'Heartbreaking'
In a Facebook post on the ‘Christopher’s Legacy’ page his mother thanked people for helping the family through the ‘most terrifying, emotional and heartbreaking’ time.
She wrote: “To the 12 members of the jury, thank you for giving your time, listening to the evidence and carrying the responsibility of reaching your verdict.
“This has been an incredibly difficult journey for our family, and we are grateful to everyone who played their part in bringing us to this point.
“Although we now have the verdict, there is still one thing our hearts are desperately waiting for — to have our boy walk through that door again.
“No verdict can bring Christopher back, and nothing ever will. We will spend the rest of our lives missing him, loving him and fighting for his legacy.”
She added: “It has been painful beyond words to see our beautiful boy spoken about in ways he never deserved.
“But today, we can take some comfort in knowing that the evidence has been heard, the process has taken place, and the truth has prevailed.
“Christopher was our son, our brother, our family and our world. He was so much more than the things people chose to say about him.
“He was loved, he mattered, and his life will always mean something.
“Our boy will forever be 14, but his legacy will live on.”
