Minister says democracy needs public service broadcasting
In a later question at today's Tynwald sitting, Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas questioned the need for another debate about Manx Radio and public service broadcasting.
The question asked about maintaining a plurality of media outlets on the Isle of Man free from state subsidy.
During the answers, East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw launched an attack on the BBC Panorama programme and the standards of investigative journalism.
The Policy and Reform Minister defended the BBC as a public service broadcaster despite anger at one small part of the overall package.
Mr. Thomas then quoted from a report debated in Tynwald in March 2014 when Manx Radio was endorsed as the Island's public service broadcaster:-
