Parking won't be a big problem
After years of debate and false starts, Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer says it's time for the refurbishment of Douglas Promenade to start.
Planning permission is being sought to get work underway in September.
If the go ahead is given, there will be tender process for the project contract with a proviso that it's completed in three years or sooner.
Minister Ray Harmer says the failing piece of road needs to be completely redeveloped to cope with 6 million vehicle movements annually.
Plans include a redesign of the tram tracks, a dramatic visual difference to the southern end and modern structural engineering.
There have been concerns raised about a lack of car parking spaces in the capital during the regeneration works.
