Tourism awards for 2008 handed over

The best attractions and services the Isle of Man has to offer to visitors were honoured at the annual Tourism Awards in Douglas today.

Last year's TT Races were named Event of the Year, with Peel taking the title Best Town, and Castle Rushen (pictured) Attraction of the Year.

The Awards, in their third year, aim to honour those who promote the Island's tourist industry by offering visitors and residents a superb experience with outstanding customer service.

Today's ceremony saluted businesses and attractions both large and small for their commitment to quality and service.

From the Best Cultural experience, the Manx Museum, to Taxi Driver of the Year, Walter Heavy of Island Taxis, the event put those at the top of their game in some well deserved limelight.

The title Best Hotel went to the Rutland in Douglas, and for best self-catering accomodation to The Milking Parlour, a stylish barn conversion in Andreas.

Isle of Man Cycle Hire won the accolade for Best Customer Service, while Restaurant of the Year went to the Millennium Saagar.

The four strong judging panel included marketing manager of the awards sponsor Flybe.

The 2009 Tourism Awards are now launched and the Department of Tourism and Leisure is keen to hear about an individual, company or project which stands out from the crowd.
