A million pounds worth of track renewals to the Manx Electric Railway are to be carried out this winter.
The work began on Monday and is scheduled to take 16 weeks to complete before the service reopens next Easter.
RMS Locotec (Isle of Man) has been contracted by the Department of Tourism and Leisure to replace just over five kilometres of track.
The work includes dismantling and re-installing materials such as rail sleepers, and installing new drains.
