Committee recommends professional development
The Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson has sought to justify Tynwald members' trips off-Island, insisting some need training to develop.
He's chaired a committee examining the functioning of the Manx Parliament, which recommends the need for 'continuous professional development' of members.
The document is set to go before Tynwald next week (20 Feb).
Recently new MHKs have embarked on trips organised through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and through an exchange with Westminster.
Mr Watterson says members all bring different skills to the table, but need help in certain areas:
