IOM legally obliged to follow UK policy
The Treasury cannot unilaterally review the provisions for Isle of Man pensioners living overseas.
Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan was speaking in Tynwald this morning (Tues) in response to a question from Ramsey member Alex Allinson.
Mr Allinson had pointed out that 512 Manx pensioners living abroad, in countries such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand, had had their pensions frozen since leaving the Island.
Mr Cannan said the IOM Treasury was legally obliged to follow UK government policy.
He added that people chose to go abroad to retire for their own reasons and the issue was one for the UK to deal with.
