Possibility of museum conversion
A unique piece of the Island’s wartime history could be saved and turned into a mini-museum – if planners give the green light.
Peel Heritage Trust has applied for permission to move a World War Two bomb shelter from a private piece of land to a site at the Daisy Field owned by the commissioners.
The reinforced concrete structure has already been moved because the house it served is being demolished and rebuilt.
Bill Quine from the Trust says moving it turned out to be quite an operation because, being bombproof, it’s enormously heavy:
