39-year-old stopped riding his Yamaha R6 at The Hairpin
A TT visitor from Scotland has been banned from the road after being caught drink driving.
Craig Charles Kelso, of Beauly Crescent in Lanarkshire, was stopped by police on the Mountain Road on Monday (5 June).
The 39-year-old’s Yamaha R6 was pulled over as part of a routine stop at The Hairpin in Ramsey just before 7.20am.
Officers noted Kelso’s eyes were ‘glassy’ and he smelt of intoxicants – he failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Police Headquarters where further tests showed he was over the legal limit.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Kelso’s advocate said he’d consumed alcohol the night before but had felt fit to ride in the morning.
"He is remorseful," she added: "He regrets committing the offence."
Sentencing Kelso High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described the reading as ‘relatively low’ but said it was aggravating that the offence had been committed during TT when the roads are busier.
Fining him £750, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, she also disqualified him from driving for 12 months and until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test.
