Controversial plans to introduce tuition fees for Island students will not be debated until next year.
Politicians were next week due to vote on the Department of Education's proposals where students would have to pay at least £2,500 per year towards their university fees from next September.
However the issue has been deferred until January Tynwald after members of the public and a number of MHKs voiced concerns.
Director of Education Martin Barrow says they wanted to squeeze-in the vote before Christmas but the regulations due to be voted on have not been the public arena for long.
Mr Barrow says the department will have to wait but remains confident the introduction of fees will win support in the end:
