Douglas woman has her conviction revoked
The UK’s TV licensing authority has admitted it got it wrong when it prosecuted a Douglas woman.
Twenty-eight-year-old Simone King, of Princes Street, was taken to court and found guilty of not having a TV licence on 28 May.
However, this week prosecuting advocate Jason Stanley said Miss King had contacted the licensing organisation, which said it wouldn’t take her to court.
He applied to magistrates at Douglas courthouse to have her conviction revoked, explaining the authorities hadn’t told him not to proceed with the case.
Magistrates revoked the conviction.
