Union Mills man sent to higher court
Magistrates have committed a Union Mills man to the Court of General Gaol Delivery after he admitted trying to import more than £1,600 of drugs through the post.
Twenty-year-old Fletcher Nelson of Snughborough Avenue appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He admitted two charges of being unlawfully concerned in the production of the class B drug to the Island.
Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court Post Office staff called police after spotting a suspicious package addressed to Nelson on 9 September.
Inside was 56 grammes of cannabis worth around £1,130 – officers went to Nelson’s home and arrested him.
However, less than a fortnight later on 21 September police were called to inspect a second suspicious parcel which had arrived at the sorting office.
That package turned out to contain 28 grammes of cannabis worth £556.
Magistrates committed Nelson to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing, bailing him in the sum of £500 to appear in the higher court on 6 November.
