Both given penalty points after guilty plea
A man who drove his friend home from hospital has appeared in court after police discovered he was uninsured.
Adam James Kelly of Harcroft Meadows and Daniel Johnson of Fairways Drive, both of Douglas, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
Forty-three year old Kelly pleaded guilty to having no insurance, while Johnson admitted allowing Kelly to drive uninsured in his vehicle.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the court Johnson had undergone minor surgery at hospital and couldn’t drive.
He asked Kelly to give him a lift home in his BMW, but police stopped the pair on Jurby Road in Ramsey and discovered the driver wasn’t insured in Johnson’s car.
Kelly was handed a £650 fine as well as being ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.
Johnson, meanwhile, was fined £300 and magistrates also ordered him to pay £50 costs.
The bench also imposed eight penalty points on Kelly’s licence, while Johnson received four points.
