Minister reveals guidelines
More than two thirds of out of catchment area appeals in Island schools have been approved in the last five years.
The figures came to light in a House of Keys written answer.
Of the 57 out of catchment area appeals submitted to the Department of Education since 2013/14, 17 have been rejected.
Kewaigue Primary and Ballakermeen High School were the subject of most appeals with seven each, whilst 15 schools received none.
In this current academic year, however, almost half of the appeals were unsuccessful, compared to five years ago when every appeal was approved.
Education, Sport and Culture Minister Graham Cregeen revealed the guidelines in which applications are processed - including school capacities, class sizes and ensuring the viability of smaller schools on the Island.
Appeal hearings also allow for additional information not previously provided to be considered by the Appeals Panel.
