Higher earners in the Isle of Man will lose their child benefit from next April.
Tynwald unanimously approved plans to end payments for families with an annual income above £90,000.
There will also be a reduction on a sliding scale for couples who earn between £60,000 and £90,000.
The move brings an end to universal payment of the benefit and is expected to save the Department of Social Care £2.5 million per year.
Minister Chris Robertshaw says the public purse can no longer afford to offer the benefit to people ‘who simply don't need it’ and was delighted after winning unanimous backing for the reform:
