National day celebrations at St John's
It's Tynwald Day, the Island's national day and the scene is set at St John's for the annual open air ceremony and celebrations.
It is a day of pride in the Island's independence, with the open air sitting of parliament a symbolic tradition and spectacle which has continued through centuries.
Manx flags are flying from homes and gardens, on high streets and from public buildings and along the main routes to St John's.
The Isle of Man's right to pass its own laws is asserted on Tynwald Hill - this year 18 new Acts will be promulgated, or declared in public, in English and Manx.
Months of planning have been underway to ensure the ceremony goes without a hitch.
It begins when Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood arrives at just after 10.30 to a formal guard of honour and fanfare.
