Five acts to be promulgated from Tynwald Hill

This year's Tynwald Day ceremony is set to get underway this morning. (7 July)

The open-air sitting will get underway in St John's at 10am.

There are five Acts for promulgation this year:

-Vaping Products Act 2024: An Act to make provision in respect of the manufacture of vaping products, the composition of vaping liquids and the sale, importation, advertising and promotion of such products; and for connected purposes.

-Employment (Amendment) Act 2024: An Act to amend the Employment Act 2006 to make further provision for family leave rights and whistleblowing; and for connected purposes.

-Fines and Penalties Act 2024: An Act to modernise references in Acts of Tynwald to fines and penalties imposed on summary conviction and to amend certain provisions relating to daily fines or penalties in such legislation; and for connected purposes.

-Public Sector Payments Act 2025: An Act to enable payments to holders of certain posts or positions and members of certain bodies, and for connected purposes.

-Charities Registration and Regulation (Amendment) Act 2025: An Act to amend the Charities Registration and Regulation Act 2019 to provide for the delegation of the regulatory functions of the Attorney General in connection with charities.

Aside from the promulgation of acts, members of the public also have the opportunity to submit a petition for redress - sometimes known as the “Tynwald Hill petition” - which is one of two ways a public petition can be made to Tynwald.

The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, will be involved in this year's proceedings at St John’s.

He's told Manx Radio it's his first time taking part in the event:

Away from the proceedings on Tynwald Hill, activities are scheduled throughout the day with the stalls on the back Fairfield.

After the Ceremony has finished there is music in the chapel and on the front Fairfield, and in the Tynwald Fest marquee from 1pm until the evening ends at 10pm with Ellan Vannin Pipes & Drums playing on the hill.

President of Tynwald Laurence Skelly says: “Tynwald Day is our National Day and a day to celebrate everything that is Manx.

"The ancient ceremony on Tynwald Hill is an important reminder of our unique culture, heritage and democracy.  We look forward to welcoming everyone to St John’s to witness the ceremony and join in celebrations and wish everyone near and far Laa Tinvaal Sonney Dhyt – Happy Tynwald Day.”

Various traffic restrictions will be in place throughout St John's.
