600th anniversary of first statute of Tywald
Tynwald day serves a real purpose and isn't just an exercise in political pageantry - that's according to the President of Tynwald Steve Rodan.
He explains if laws aren't promulgated from the historic hill in St Johns within 18 months of royal assent, they don't stand.
This year it's the 600th anniversary of the first statute of Tynwald, set out in 1417, which describes how the ceremony was to be conducted.
Mr Rodan says petitions are also a precious and important function of the day
