Queen's Pier in Ramsey is to be made safe, at a cost of £1.8 million.
The decision was taken in Tynwald after a long debate, during which members ruled out refurbishment, which would have cost £9 million.
The court agreed to the 'bare minimum' option put forward by Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne, which was to maintain the pier's stability and prevent any further deterioration.
Mr Gawne said it was 'a sensible and practical' decision in the current financial squeeze:
