Prominent international political figure praises Island
A prominent international organisation has praised the Island's 'forward thinking, close-knit' political system.
Akbar Khan, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, has spent the week meeting Tynwald members, school pupils and local residents.
He spoke positively of the Island's 'community democracy' model, its legislative innovation, and its 'openness to sharing ideas'.
The Association has been promoting effective governance and democratic freedom across the globe since it was founded in 1911.
Mr Khan says other jurisdictions could learn from Tynwald:
