Tynwald to consider land swap report

There’ll be plenty of debate in Tynwald this month as the court considers some familiar issues.

Members sit today, with a number of items that are sure to spark discussion in the chamber, including young people, the Kirk Michael land swap and politicians’ pay.

Michael MHK Alf Cannan will suggest in future Tynwald members pay should be decided by an independent body instead of being tied to the Civil Service Commission.

And South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft wants to introduce new rules to force Treasury to seek the court’s permission before it buys a five per cent stake in any company.

Chocolate fans will be pleased to hear the court will be discussing EU rules on what exactly goes into the sweet treat, while those in search of distinctive licence plates may soon be able to buy the word “MANX” if new licensing regulations are approved.

There’ll also be an update from Economic Development Minister John Shimmin about young people who aren’t in education, employment or training.

And Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan will present a select committee report into the land swap deal with a developer at Kirk Michael School.
